William Hogarth Exhibition

Caixa Forum Barcelona, Montjuich May-August 2007
William Hogarth (1697-1764) is the most important English painter of the 18th century. Especially, he was great chronicler of the life of his period and his painting is valued mainly for the satirical vision of the British society. To understand better the rich inheritance left, the exhibition proposes to reconstruct the life and work of the painter, presenting an exhaustive itinerary of paintings, engravings and drawings that he produced, describing the London cosmopolitan environment in which he lived, in order to make more clear his important contribution to the development of the British modern art. The exhibition also counts with the contribution of works from great contemporary artists, like Yinca Shonibare, David Hockney or Paula Rego, who used the acid work of Hogarth as inspiration to create their works. At Caixa Forum from May 30th to August 26th . The Graham Children, 1742. Oil on canvas © National Gallery, London
