1st International Ocean Sailing Congress & Environment

About Barcelona

From December 28th to 30th of 2010, prior to the Departure of the 2nd Edition of the Barcelona World Race on December 31st, it will take place the “1st International Congress of Ocean Sailing & Environment” where the future of “Ocean Sailing and its use in the next decade, and the conservation of Marine Environment” will be discussed.
The Congress will be focused in three topics: The Boat, The Skipper and The Space of Competition. The1st session about the Boat will address the issues of the boat as a tool for navigation and the technological advances in design and materials to make them faster and safer. The2nd session will be dedicated to the human element, the Skipper, in the development of physical and mental strength to face great challenges in navigation. The3rd session will be looking at the Space of Competition, the Planet Sea, looking forward on the future of the environment and protection to the marine environment.
Special attention will be given through the congress to the personality and skills of skipper Eric Tabarly and his influence on the design and build of racing yachts, with the introduction made by friends and members of his team and after with the presentation of the Film by Pierre Marcel, about Eric Tabarly’s life, that evokes the extraordinary career of standard marine and his extreme sensitivity and shows the perfect symbiosis between a man, a boat and the sea, bringing to life the offshore races, the discreet and triumphal arrivals, alone or with a crew during the thirty five years of dominance of the Pen Duick Yachts on all the seas of the world.
 Representatives of the different areas involved in the development of Ocean Sailing and Marine Environment such as National & International Administrations, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO), Universities, Shipyards, Designers, New Technologies, Journalists, Meteorologists and Skippers will be attending this 1st Barcelona Congress.
All attendees to the Congress will go to the Village on December 31st to see the last preparations for the 2nd Barcelona World Race and the output of the race.

World Architecture Festival

The World Architecture Festival, WAF2010, will take place from November 3rd to 5th in Barcelona at the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona.  The World Architecture Festival is the only annual international event to reward excellence in a fully interactive inclusive live format.
To last year event in Barcelona came more than 1500 architects from 71 countries to discover the best projects of the preceding 18 months and to create ideas for the future of the industry through best practice exchange and collaboration.
The World Architecture Festival runs the biggest international architectural awards program in the world. Its global reach, prestigious judging panel, unique entry process and extensive media interest have made it a fixture in the international architectural profession diary. The festival features also seminars and exhibition content, as well as projects from architects all over the world.
The expert judging panel includes Arata Isozaki from Japan as Super Jury Chair and other prestigious names from different countries of the world including Barry Bergdoll, John Patkau, Matthias Sauerbruch, Kjetil T Thorsen & Michel Rojkind.
This year the sections include: Completed Buildings, Future Projects, Interiors and Fit Out, and Structural Design. The World Architecture Festival has teamed up with the Art and Work Awards to introduce a new award section called Art into Architecture aimed at encouraging and celebrating the relationship between art and architecture.

18th United European Gastroenterology week

About Barcelona

The United European Gastroenterology Federation (UEGF) has chosen the city of Barcelona, Spain, for the United European Gastroenterology week UEGW Barcelona 2010. Since 1992 it the has been the forum for European Gastroenterologists and is now among the top medical meetings in Europe and also recognized as a top class Meeting outside Europe.
The UEGW 2010 has an extended scientific program with a full two-day post-graduate program on Saturday and Sunday incorporating gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy, surgery, imaging and other diagnostic modalities; the ESGE Learning Area divided into three sections: the Hands-On Training Centre ( in cooperation with ESEGENA will offer various forms of hands-on training throughout the congress), the Lecture Theatre (which will offer lectures on selected topics and provide an opportunity for small forum discussions) and the DVD Learning Centre (several DVD stations offering individual learning for endoscopy).
The ESEGENA Conference (European Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Nurses and Associates) is an associated meeting at the congress with separate scientific program.
The Open Plenary Session of the UEGW 2010 will be held on Monday morning and will include official speeches, invited speakers and presentations of the best submitted abstracts. During the Plenary Session it will be presented the UEGF Awards the UEGF Research Prize and the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Interdisciplinary Symposia will cover new approaches to diagnosis and treatment, and place major emphasis on innovative technical advances in the non-invasive management of gastrointestinal and hepatic disorders. The Barcelona UEGW is also proud to host an international two-day symposium on GI and liver stem cells, co-organised and hosted by Hans Clevers and Tania Roskams.
The UEGW Barcelona 2010 will take place from October Saturday 23 to Wednesday 27 in Barcelona, Mediterranean city that incorporates in its urban street the Roman remains, medieval districts, the most beautiful examples of Catalan Modernism and new modern buildings as the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona (CCIB), inaugurated in November 2004, located in the north-west of Barcelona/Diagonal Mar area. The CCIB consists of two separate buildings; the Forum Building Auditorium designed by Swiss architects Jaques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron and the Convention Centre designed by Spanish architect Josep Lluís Mateo - MAP Arquitectos. Both buildings are linked by an underground walkway.

International Congress of Neuroimmunology 2010 Barcelona

The 10th ISNI Congress, International Congress of Neuroimmunology 2010, will take place in the coastal town of Sitges, half an hour from Barcelona.
The 10th ISNI Congress will be an excellent opportunity to realize the changes in the field of Neuroimmunology and to envision new perspectives for basic and clinical research due to the growing interest in inflammation for many neurological diseases, the new immunotherapies and biomarkers available or being developed and the growth of new brain infections related with globalization or with the use of new immunotherapies.
The scientific program is the most important part of the ISNI Congress and has been appointed by the Local Organizing Committee. It consists of magistral lectures, plenary lectures, concurrent symposia, oral platforms, poster sessions and training to compose a high level, well-balanced scientific program. Poster sessions are scheduled during the long lunch break to enable the participants to have time for discussing the data presented.
The congress is preceded by the 10th ESNI Course – European School of Neuroimmunology, a European initiative which organizes yearly educational courses spanning from basic immunology to clinical neuroimmunology.

BCN Design Week

ESTRO 29 European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology

The European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, ESTRO, has established an international reputation for organising different events through the year covering all aspects of radiation oncology and the multidisciplinary treatment of cancer.
ESTRO 29, which will be held from 12th to 16th September 2010 in the city of Barcelona, Spain.
Major improvements in radiation oncology, radiation physics, radiation biology and technology have contributed to increase the cure rates and also the quality of life of the patients and to establish our specialty at the forefront of modern multimodal oncology. Recently, radiation oncology has been very successful in exploring new horizons, focusing on the development of innovative high precision technologies for imaging cancer patients during the course of their treatment and improving permanently the precision in treatment delivery. Lately we have succeeded in exploring how these advances will change clinical oncology. New areas of research will continue to shape our future, including the identification of new molecular pathways involved in radiation response, molecularly targeted radiation oncology and the coming revolution of oncology imaging. Furthermore, proton and ion beam therapy are becoming more widely available and will certainly have an impact on the future of radiation oncology.
On Sunday 12 there will four pre-Conference Courses dedicated to Functional Imaging in Treatment Planning - Existing Standards and Future Developments, Adaptive Radiotherapy, Contribution of Tumor Microenvironment to Radiation Responses and Patient Safety in Radiation Oncology.

The EMBO Meeting 2010

The European Molecular Biology Organization is having the Annual meeting of 2010 in the city of Barcelona from September 4 to 7. The Meeting will consist on plenary lectures, workshops and the exhibition together with the Poster sessions.
The three plenary lecture sessions will be dedicated to modern evolutionary biology, molecular developmental biology and to the rapidly developing fields related to systems biology, such as network biology, functional genomics and synthetic biology.
A rich selection of topics will be addressed in the 21 workshops during the meeting that will explore different fields from central themes such as cell signaling and division, chromosomal organization, genome stability, cell differentiation and pluripotency, epigenetics and mechanisms of gene regulation to another series of sessions that will explore the new frontiers in molecular biology.  These will present research devoted to the analysis on the global genetic makeup of entire bacterial communities (metagenomics), the application of molecular and computational techniques for the engineering of human-designed biological objects (synthetic biology), and the investigation of the inner working of complex genetic and metabolic networks.

IUTOX-2010, XII International Congress of Toxicology

The XII International Congress will be held this year in Barcelona organized by the Spanish Association of Toxicology (AETOX) and EUROTOX in the name of the International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX). The International Congress of Toxicology is held every 3 years in a different city.
The IUTOX-2010 intends to be a forum for the interaction among different fields of activity related with toxicology under a scientific environment. The IUTOX-2010 Congress will encourage interaction between Academia, Industry, Regulators and Experts in Human (clinical and epidemiology) and Environmental Toxicology. Chemical Safety increasingly requires integrated approaches to achieve successful possibilities of the innovative applications. Starting from the most basic molecular and cell research, going through in vitro alternative approaches for short and long-term effects, “omics” strategies for in vitro and rational animal testing and human diagnosis, application of human data (epidemiological and clinical data) and transferring results to the application for risk assessment in regulatory purposes, efficient strategies for toxicity evaluation, and risk characterization of thousands of chemicals, risk communication and social acceptance.

2010 IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence

The World Congress on Computational Intelligence is the largest technical event in the field of computational intelligence. The Congress on Computational Intelligence takes place every two years in different cities in the world having taken place the last two congresses in Vancouver on 2006 and Hong Kong on 2008.

9th International Conference on Interaction Design and Children

The 9th International Conference on Interaction Design and Children will take place in Barcelona at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) from June 9 to 12. In this specific edition there is a special interst to promote specially the field of full-body interaction. According to health organizations, the current generations of children in the developed world will be the first to have a decrease in life expectancy with respect to our generation of middle-aged adults. One of the causes for this is the lack of physical activity (PA) of contemporary children.  As in previous editions of IDC, the general goals of the 2010 conference will be to better understand children's needs, and how to design for them, by presenting and discussing the most innovative research in the field of interaction design for children, by exhibiting the most recent developments in design and design methodologies, and by gathering the leading minds in the field of interaction design for children.
The IDC 2010 Conference is organized with the cooperation of the Audiovisual University Institute of UPF (IUA), Department of Information and Communication Technologies of UPF (DTIC) and Department of Communication of UPF (DECOM), and will take place at the new Communication-Poblenou Campus of the UPC University, in the heart of new 22@ district.

16th Annual Meeting of the Organization for Human Brain Mapping

The 16th Annual Meeting of the Organization for Human Brain Mapping will be held from the 6 to the 10 of  June 2010 in Barcelona, Spain at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya.

The Organization for Human Brain Mapping (OHBM) is committed to the involvement of trainees in its annual meetings and offers a limited number of travel awards, which provide funds to help reimburse travel expenses for trainees attending the conference.
The program will feature The Talairach Lecture (a prestigious honor) named after famed neurosurgeon Jean Talairach, that  this year will be presented by György Buzsáki from Rutgers University, Newark, NJ. Buzsáki’s primary interests are brain oscillations, sleep and memory.
Different lectures with the name of The Keynote Lectures of approximately 30 minutes will be presented during the Meeting. World Architecture Festival

The World Architecture Festival is the annual event for architects worldwide. 
The Festival will celebrate the work, concerns and aspirations of the international architectural community, during a three-day event taking place in Barcelona, Spain from 22 to 24 October 2008.
The Festival will reflect the increasingly international nature of architecture, while also celebrating its regional roots. It will be possible, through the exhibition of awards entries, to compare and contrast different approaches to the design of 96 building types in the 16 categories.
The Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona (CCIB) is the modern exhibition facility, at the eastern end of the Diagonal, next to the Forum Barcelona building.
The Festival will occupy a substantial part of the ground floor exhibition space, and the first floor for the Awards Gallery, Plenary Room and Presentation Rooms.
Each floor will be designed as a piece of city planning: downstairs the various elements will be laid out like the historic centre of Barcelona; upstairs it will be like the gridded city, complete with Diagonal.

Every 4 years the Community of the World Conservation Union, founded in 1948 as the world’s first global environmental organization, gets together for The World Conservation Congress, the world’s largest and most diverse conservation event that aims to improve how to manage the natural environment for a better human, social and economic development.
The Congress has two parts: the Forum and the Members’ Assembly. The Forum will offer four days of debates, workshops, dialogues, art, roundtable discussions, training courses, music and exhibitions. The Assembly, the main governing body of the Union, will approve the Union’s programme of work for the following four years, elect the IUCN President and Council, and manage the business affairs of the Union.
