Garmin Barcelona Triathlon

The third edition of Garmin Barcelona Triathlon will take place in Barcelona on October 10th 2010, with a very similar route as last edition and some modifications that will make it even more exciting.
The Triathlon is a combined endurance sport in which the participant performed three tests. These are: swimming, cycling and running. The order is set and the clock does not stop during the entire duration of the competition. The rules of the competition are those of the Catalan Triatló , and specific provisions contained in this regulation.
The Garmin Barcelona Triathlon is divided, also as in the other editions, into 4 categories (sprint, olympic, super sprint, y Tri-corporate)
All the activity will be centered around the Pavelló de la Mar Bella, as the swimming race will in the waters in front of the Mar Bella and Nova Mar Bella beaches and the transitions will be made on the streets nearby with the cycling race giving 3 laps to a circuit through Avd Litoral, selva de Mar, Diagonal, Pg Garcia Faria ,Carmen Amaya and Avda litoral streets, and runnig will go around de Litoral Marina, Paseo de Circunvalación Parc de la Ciudadela Paseo Picasso Paseo Pujades Paseo lluis Companys to end up the pavello de la Mar Bella.
the circuits will have different forms depending on the distance traveled: Olympic Category with the1.500 m swim, 40 km cycling and 10 km race walk, Sprint Category  with 750 m swim, 20km bike and 5 km jogging and the Supers print, Category 400 m in the aquatic environment for cycling 10 km and 2.5 km run.
And as happened in the last years there will be the test Corporate Tri Challenge, team relay, to encourage amateur athletes who do not have the level to complete an entire triathlon but which are able to play a part. This discipline is meant for all the companies point to their relay teams and participate against other companies in the Corporate Tri Challenge.
To point to a team only need to bring together three people in your company and that each makes a different mode. A swim 750 meters or 1.5 kilometers, one bike will go 20 or 40 miles and the third run 5 or 10 kilometers. Each team will choose the distance you want.
The organization and Garmin as sponsor hope to break the record achieved in the last issue and reach the 5,000 participants.

European Athletics Championship

The 20th European Athletics Championships will be held in Barcelona from July 27 to August 1,2010, under the auspices of the European Athletics Association and the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation. The opening ceremony will be Monday, July 26, and the competitions will be in the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in the Olympic complex of the Montjuich Mountain except the road tests of Racewalking and Marathon which will run on urban street circuits in central Barcelona. More than 1,200 athletes from Europe from the 50 member countries will compete in these days in 24 and 23 disciplines in men and women.
The circuit of the Marathon of the 20th European Athletics Championships Barcelona will be totally urban and alongside some of the main icons of the architecture of the City. The race will be almost completely flat (6 to 27 meters over sea level); the departure and arrival will be on the Passeig de Picasso, at the side of the Parc de la Ciutadel.la. Athletes will pass through the interior of the Arc de Triomf , and through the Rondas to reach the Plaza de Catalunya and continue to get to the Plaza Universidad; then turn into Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes till Passeig de Gràcia going up to Aragon Street, near the Casa Batlló, and come back down through the same Boulevard to the Gran Via, and from there to descend through Marina leaving the Agbar Tower on the left going to  the twin towers in the Olimpic Port; from there close to the seafront to bind first Ciutadella Park and through the Paseo de Colon reach the monument of Columbus and return through the same Avenue to the Parc de la Ciutadel.la.

Cursa El Corte Ingles

The Department Store El Corte Inglés has been organizing in Barcelona since 1979 a race of nearly 11 kilometers through the streets of Barcelona starting and finishing in the Plaça Catalunya open to all kind of participants, from general public to amateur athletes.
The "Cursa El Corte Inglés" has become one of the most important and better known popular races. This is greatly due to the support given by both public and private institutions and, most of all, to the massive response of the citizens of Barcelona who, through their participation, have made it possible for the celebration of this sporting event to be eagerly expected year after year.
This popular race has also offered  its exceptional mechanisms of diffusion to nongovernmental organizations or civil events  like Sport Aid - Tot el món corre per Àfrica (1986), Fundación de Ayuda Contra la Drogadicción - Engánchate a la Vida (1990), Intermón (1991), Manos Unidas (1994), FASE, Fundación Anti-Sida España (1995), Creu Roja (1996), Fundació Privada d'Investigació Cardiovascular (1997), la Fundació Internacional Josep Carreras (1998), Unicef - Fondo de las Naciones Unidas para la Infancia (1999), Médicos Sin Fronteras (2000), Banc d'Ulls per a tractaments de la ceguesa (2001), Fundació Esclerosi Múltiple (2002) Fundación Vicente Ferrer (2005) Manos Unidas (2006), Casal dels Infants del Raval (2007), , Red Cross (2008), and the Fundació Catalana Síndrome de Down (2009). This year the 32nd Cursa El Corte Inglés is collaborating with the Fundación de Investigación Oncológica.
The Barcelona event, in spite of its festive and multitudinous nature, has never renounced precision and control in all of its organizational aspects and it has always been under the guidance of the Catalan Athletics Federation (Federación Catalana de Atletismo).
In this way, the Cursa El Corte Inglés combines the festive participation of the general public with the rigorous and intensive practice of amateur sports. The event is open to all kinds of participants and it also facilitates the presence of those amateur athletes that require certain control measures in their sporting practice and that are not usual for the occasional athlete.
The "Cursa El Corte Inglés" has turned into a sports activity of recognized international prestige that combines perfectly the festive habitual character of such a massive event with the rigor, the control and the seriousness that demands from any athletic competition and that in this case is supported by the Catalan Federation of Athletics.

Barcelona 'Cursa de Bombers' 10K

The 12th edition of the Cursa de Bombers will start at 10:00Hs in Barcelona on April 18. 2010 This an extremely popular mass participation event of 10 kilometers distance leaves from l'Avinguda del Marques de l'Argentera, close to the Parc de la Ciutadella, and run, among other interesting sights of Barcelon, along the Passeig Colón, Avinguda Paral • lel, Entença street, Gran Via Corts Catalanes dels, Sardenya street, Carrer de Ausias March, Passeig Sant Joan, Ronda de Sant Pere, Plaça Urquinaona, Via Laietana and the arrival is back  in l'Avinguda del Marques de l'Argentera. The Registration was closed days before the race as ir had already covered up the maximum number of participants.
The 2009, 11th edition of the popular firemen’s race "Cursa Bombers" 10k had 18.000 participants including 400 firefighters from Catalonia, Andorra and other parts of Spain. A tradition of the firemen’s race in Barcelona is that 4 of the Bombers de Barcelona (Barcelona firemen) form a relay team and each member of the team runs 2.5 km of the 10k Cursa Bombers with full fire fighting gear weighing almost 20 kg. They compete against other firemen teams to win the coveted fireman team prize called "Premio Especial al Bombero Equipado."

All runners will receive an exclusive t-shirt with Nike Dri-Fit technology. The competition format will be timed by a chip placed in the shoes. The output is in functio of the credited time of a 10K race of last year or the Cursa Bombers 2009. Runnerss will be placed in different boxes to be able to run at their pace run and not interfering with faster runners. Trophies will be given the first 3 in each category. In addition, all runners who complete the course receive a diploma and a commemorative DVD of the race that may be collected from 4 to 8 May at the sports ground of the Corte Ingles diagonal and Portal de l'Angel.
The Cursa Bombers race (IAAF Bronze Label Road Races) in Barcelona is organized by Nike and the City of Barcelona.

Barcelona Marathon 2009

The Marató de Barcelona of 2009 will be taking place on March 1st.The race will start at 8:30 am, with an approximate running time for the first runner of 2 hours and 15 minutes, and with an expected record of participants.Open to athletes of all nationalities, licensed or non licensed.
The race will start and end in the Avinguda María Cristina on the Montjuich Mountain and it will goe through some emblematic sights of the city like the Barcelona Futbol Club Stadium (Camp Nou ), Several important Modernist buildings and works from Gaudi, Casa Batlló, Casa Milá (La Pedrera) and La Sagrada Familia, from Puig I Cadafalch , Casa Amatller, Palau Baro de Quadras and Casa de le Punxes, and from Domènech I Montaner, Casa Lleo Morera, Casa Macaya and Hospital de Sant Pablo, the classic Arc the Triomf by Vilaseca i Casanovas or the well known cOlumus Monument at the end od the Ramblas; with a visit to the Gothic Neighbourhood, passing by the Cathedral, the City Town Hall, Las Ramblas and the Drassanes building; passing by the new icons like Jean Nouvelle’s Torre Agbar, Herzog & Meuron Forum Building, the Towers of the Olympic Vila and the new Gas Natural office building by Miralles Tagliabue or the Calatrava bridge.  Going also through some of the nicest Avenues like Diagonal Avenue and the Gran Via de las Corts Catalenes in different sectors, the old beautiful boulevards of Passeig de Gracia, Passeig de Sant Joan and Passeig de Lluis Companys or the new Passeig de Litoral close to the beaches of Barcelona
The official distance of 42,195Km long, certified by the Catalan Athletics Federation, through an authorised commission of the IAAF will be a journey through the old the present and the future of the city of Barcelona
As it has happened in the previous editions of the Barcelona Marathon, the day before the celebration of the race there will be traditional Pasta Party. An event that takes place at the Marató Expo, offering pasta dishes to all the persons that will participate in the Marathon the next day.
The Winner of the last edition, Marató de Barcelona 2008, in men's category was Kenyan runner Hosea Kosgei with a time of 2h.14:42, and in women's the Ethiopian runner Mihret Tadesse, who finished the race in 2h.42:12.

BARCELONA TRIATHLON 2008

XX TROFEU INTERNACIONAL CIUTAT DE BARCELONA

On the first weekend of October the Triathlon is back in Barcelona. In this year edition the expectation is much higher as it it the first time that this race has become one of the tests of the main European Tour for triathlon: the European Cities Tri-Series.
The Triathlon Ciutat de Barcelona is divided into 4 categories (sprint, olímpica, supersprint, y Tri-corporate) which will attempt to collect a global of more than 2,500 participants.
The categories are the Super Sprint (400m swimming + 10K bicycle + 2.5 kilometres running), the Sprint (750m + 20Km + 5Km) and the Olympic (1,500 m + 40Km & 10Km. Also there4 is  the Corporate Tri Challenge  designed for companies; it is a relay race which will have the same distance from the test or the Olympic sprint; To point to a team only need a group of 3 people that each makes a different modality..
All the activity will be centred at the Pavelló de la Mar Bella, as the swimming race will in the waters in front of the Mar Bella beach and the transitions will be made on the near by.
Together with the 4 categories there will be also the Triatló Solidari, a joint initiative aimed for raising funds for the Foundation of Real Dreams.

XII EuroGames

European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation

The XII EuroGames, a sort of "Olympic Games” will take place this year in Barcelona from July 24th-27th. Since 1992 when the first EuroGames were carried out in the city of Den Haag till today many other European cities like Berlin, Paris, Manchester or Zurich have already received the games, but it is the first time that the games arrive to the Mediterranean Sea.
The EuroGames are a gay and lesbian sporting event in Europe, hosted by license of the European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation and organized by one or more of the federation's member clubs.
The competitions will take place in some of the venues used for the Olympic Games in 1992 like the emblematic Palau Sant Jordi and more than 1500 athletes in 28 different sport disciplines from various European countries have registered for these two days of sports and an audience of nearly 30.000 people is expected to attend the various parties, cultural events, and the gay/lesbian film festival that will take place on the same dates.
