World Architecture Festival

The World Architecture Festival, WAF2010, will take place from November 3rd to 5th in Barcelona at the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona. The World Architecture Festival is the only annual international event to reward excellence in a fully interactive inclusive live format.
To last year event in Barcelona came more than 1500 architects from 71 countries to discover the best projects of the preceding 18 months and to create ideas for the future of the industry through best practice exchange and collaboration.
The World Architecture Festival runs the biggest international architectural awards program in the world. Its global reach, prestigious judging panel, unique entry process and extensive media interest have made it a fixture in the international architectural profession diary. The festival features also seminars and exhibition content, as well as projects from architects all over the world.
The expert judging panel includes Arata Isozaki from Japan as Super Jury Chair and other prestigious names from different countries of the world including Barry Bergdoll, John Patkau, Matthias Sauerbruch, Kjetil T Thorsen & Michel Rojkind.
This year the sections include: Completed Buildings, Future Projects, Interiors and Fit Out, and Structural Design. The World Architecture Festival has teamed up with the Art and Work Awards to introduce a new award section called Art into Architecture aimed at encouraging and celebrating the relationship between art and architecture.
18th United European Gastroenterology week

The United European Gastroenterology Federation (UEGF) has chosen the city of Barcelona, Spain, for the United European Gastroenterology week UEGW Barcelona 2010. Since 1992 it the has been the forum for European Gastroenterologists and is now among the top medical meetings in Europe and also recognized as a top class Meeting outside Europe.
The UEGW 2010 has an extended scientific program with a full two-day post-graduate program on Saturday and Sunday incorporating gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy, surgery, imaging and other diagnostic modalities; the ESGE Learning Area divided into three sections: the Hands-On Training Centre ( in cooperation with ESEGENA will offer various forms of hands-on training throughout the congress), the Lecture Theatre (which will offer lectures on selected topics and provide an opportunity for small forum discussions) and the DVD Learning Centre (several DVD stations offering individual learning for endoscopy).
The ESEGENA Conference (European Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Nurses and Associates) is an associated meeting at the congress with separate scientific program.
The Open Plenary Session of the UEGW 2010 will be held on Monday morning and will include official speeches, invited speakers and presentations of the best submitted abstracts. During the Plenary Session it will be presented the UEGF Awards the UEGF Research Prize and the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Interdisciplinary Symposia will cover new approaches to diagnosis and treatment, and place major emphasis on innovative technical advances in the non-invasive management of gastrointestinal and hepatic disorders. The Free Paper Sessions are original research presentations delivered orally will have increased prominence this year, with a more interactive format. The Video Case Session will be an excellent platform for brief information on very current issues of endoscopy. Clinical Case Sessions will be presented and illustrated by high-quality endoscopic, radiological and pathological images. Live Endoscopy Sessions with international experts will demonstrate cutting-edge techniques and new tricks.
The Barcelona UEGW is also proud to host an international two-day symposium on GI and liver stem cells, co-organised and hosted by Hans Clevers and Tania Roskams.
The UEGW Barcelona 2010 will take place from October Saturday 23 to Wednesday 27 in Barcelona, Mediterranean city that incorporates in its urban street the Roman remains, medieval districts, the most beautiful examples of Catalan Modernism and new modern buildings as the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona (CCIB), inaugurated in November 2004, located in the north-west of Barcelona/Diagonal Mar area. The CCIB consists of two separate buildings; the Forum Building Auditorium designed by Swiss architects Jaques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron and the Convention Centre designed by Spanish architect Josep Lluís Mateo - MAP Arquitectos. Both buildings are linked by an underground walkway.
Festival BAM - Barcelona Acció Musical

Around September 24, day of City Patron Saint Virgin Mercé (Our Lady of Mercy), once again Barcelona will celebrate its Annual City Festival. One of the clasic events of these days is the BAM (Barcelona Acció Musical). The BAM Barcelona 2010, a festival of independent music, showcases the best from the Catalan and Spanish music scene along with out coming international figures in more than 70 performances at a dozen different venues being all the concerts free.
The BAM Music Festival brings together a variety of genres from different corners of the world, from folk to electronic, pop-rock, hip hop or rumba, merging different rhythms and cultures from the Mediterranean, Europe, America or Africa.
The organization of the BAM Music Festival 2010, in its 18th edition, has released the first confirmations for this year edition of the festival, to be held from September 23 to 25.
Some of the names are: GOLDFRAPP at the Fòrum - BAM/MTV (British duo led by Alison Goldfrapp that prefers not to spend too much time on the same style. From their trip-hop specially pop beginningsthat turned into electronic glam, going through a pastoral floating pop, and now returned to their more dancing with thei work Headfrist); EL GUINCHO at the Pl. dels Àngels (Pablo Diaz-Reixa, better known as El Guincho, from the Canary Islands, will present his new album Pop negre –Black Pop-2010); HINDI ZAHRA at the Plaça de Rei (Parisian muse singer of Berber origin, presenting her songs of American great influence- jazz, folk, blues- with vibrant rhythm that lead to emotional and shady areas); MAIKA MAKOVSKI at the Pl. dels Àngels (rock singer from the Mallorca island that has restarted his career this year with a record that, despite being the third, it is called simply Maika Makovski); TULSA at la Plaça del Rei (band led by Miren Iza (former Electrobikinis) presenting the latest album, Espera la pálida); NUEVA VULCANO at Plaça Reial (rock band that combines the visceral energy with high fly poetic lyrics); and many other names like Nacho Umbert & La Compañía, San Leon, Belle & Sebastian, Me and the Bees, Anti-Pop Consortium and more names that will be added to the list.
Some of the new and old venues of the Festival are Plaça dels Angels, Plaça de Joan Corominas, Plaça Reial, Plaça del Rei, Parc del Fórum or l’Antiga Fàbrica Damm.
ESTRO 29 European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology

The European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, ESTRO, has established an international reputation for organising different events through the year covering all aspects of radiation oncology and the multidisciplinary treatment of cancer.
ESTRO 29, which will be held from 12th to 16th September 2010 in the city of Barcelona, Spain.
Major improvements in radiation oncology, radiation physics, radiation biology and technology have contributed to increase the cure rates and also the quality of life of the patients and to establish our specialty at the forefront of modern multimodal oncology. Recently, radiation oncology has been very successful in exploring new horizons, focusing on the development of innovative high precision technologies for imaging cancer patients during the course of their treatment and improving permanently the precision in treatment delivery. Lately we have succeeded in exploring how these advances will change clinical oncology. New areas of research will continue to shape our future, including the identification of new molecular pathways involved in radiation response, molecularly targeted radiation oncology and the coming revolution of oncology imaging. Furthermore, proton and ion beam therapy are becoming more widely available and will certainly have an impact on the future of radiation oncology.
On Sunday 12 there will four pre-Conference Courses dedicated to Functional Imaging in Treatment Planning - Existing Standards and Future Developments, Adaptive Radiotherapy, Contribution of Tumor Microenvironment to Radiation Responses and Patient Safety in Radiation Oncology.
Through the Meeting it will be given the Estro ~ Varian Award to a radiotherapy professional for research in the field of radiobiology, radiation physics, clinical radiotherapy or radiation technology, The Estro-Accuray Award to a radiotherapy professional for research in the field of “High Precision Radiotherapy” and The Estro – Jack Fowler University of Wisconsin Award 2010 for the best abstract in the field of radiation physics or radiation technology, submitted for ESTRO 29.
The ESTRO 29 will take place at the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona in the Diagonal Mar/Forum Neighborhood of Barcelona.
2010 IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence

The World Congress on Computational Intelligence is the largest technical event in the field of computational intelligence. The Congress on Computational Intelligence takes place every two years in different cities in the world having taken place the last two congresses in Vancouver on 2006 and Hong Kong on 2008.
The 2010 IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence (IEEE WCCI 2010) will be held in Barcelona from July 18 to 23 at the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona.
The 2010 IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence (IEEE WCCI 2010host three conferences: the 2010 International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN 2010), the 2010 IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems (FUZZ-IEEE 2010), and the 2010 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (IEEE CEC 2010). The congress will provide a stimulating forum for scientists, engineers, educators, and students from all over the world to discuss and present their research findings on computational intelligence.
During the 2010 IEEE World Congress it will be given the 2010 IEEE Frank Rosenblatt Award, established by the IEEE Board of Directors in 2004, and named in honor of Frank Rosenblatt, who is widely regarded as one of the founders of neural networks. Michio Sugeno (Yokohama, Japan) will be awarded with the 2010 IEEE Frank Rosenblatt Award for his contributions to development and applications of the theory of fuzzy sets.
The Workshop and Tutorials will take place on Sunday July 8. The Main Conference will take place from Monday July 19 to Friday July 23 at the Centre de Convencions Internacional Barcelona (CCIB) , a modern exhibition facility, on Rambla Prim 1-17, at the eastern end of the Diagonal, in the modern Diagonal Mar/Forum neighborhood next to the Forum Barcelona building.
Bikeshow BCN 2010, Festa de la Bici i dels Patins

On the 15 and 16 of May it will take place in Barcelona the edition of Bikeshow 2010, Festa de la Bici I dels Patins (Feast of the bike and skates) organized by the council for the 5th year, in the Plaça de Llevant of the Parc del Forum in the Diagonal Mar Area. Throughout the weekend, also will be numerous displays of freestyle skating, speed and jumping with great specialists of these arrangements, and even it will be enabled a zone of slippage on skates. The presence of skating in this festival will accompanied by out hockey games and online exhibitions, a specialty very fast and spectacular sport. The main interest is to promote the skate world as a means of entertainment and sports, but also as a form of urban expression and as a means of sustainable transport perfectly integrated into the landscape of the city.
The Bike Show BCN is also intended to be an event in the world of cycling as a showcase for all the brands that want to go directly to the potential buyers.
In total it will be an area of over 50,000 m2 for the world of cycling and skating, with a wide range of possibilities. With the cooperation of institutions, sports organizations and also with the brands and companies that lend their support to this initiative, the Bikeshow and the Feast of the bike and skates will have also a children's activity area, a space dedicated to the bike as a means of urban transport, as well as practice areas for free-style patterns and a large number of exhibits. The proposals are accompanied by many road circuits and skills for leisure, learning and improvement.
The schedule of activities will be on Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm and Sunday from 10am to 3pm.
San Miguel PRIMAVERA SOUND 2010

From May 27 to May 29 the 10th edition of San Miguel Primavera Sound will be in the Parc del Forum of Barcelona.
In the list of names for this year edition there are names like Liquid Liquid, one of the most mythical formations of post punk, the New Zealand cult pop of band The Clean, one of the classics of American underground Shelac or the experimental indie rock of the Americans Polvo.
Also some of the most renown and successful bands of these recent years like the solo project of Bradford Cox Atlas Sound, the duo No Age and their new twist to indie rock, the Apocalypse sound of the Lakers band Health, the electronic music of Fuck Buttons or the experimental crossover of the New Yorkers Yeasayer will also be on stage during the three days of the festival.
An important moment of the festival will be the premiere of new show of the band Standstill, as a step forward that the group gives after of the success of the "Vivalaguerra” tour.
And as every other year special attention will be given also to fresh and new bands that have appeared in these last months like the British revelation The Big Pink or the icy electronic pop of Cold Cave and others.

BARCELONA BOSC URBA

For lovers of adventure sports now there is a place in Barcelona where to enjoy sports like Foxes, Swinging Bridges, Network Roads, Lianas, Bungee Jumping, Vertical Pirate Networks, Rope Bridges logs and others placed on different platforms up to 9 meter high. The Forum Barcelona Urban Forest is a new concept of adventure space: an adventure urban park of 6,000 square meters with more than 30 attractions, located in the Plaça del Forum.
The Plaça del Forum inside the Parc del Forum is a network of about 100 columns, left from the structures built for the Forum Universal de las Culturas 2004, that now is used to install the obstacles placed on the platforms up to 9 meters high the tallest and up to 120 meters the longest.
Three circuits have been displayed differentiated by height and level and type of difficulty: the Orange Circuit with small level of difficulty is for children from 4 to 10 years or up to 1.30 meters high and it consists of 14 platforms located 1.5 meters above ground; The Blue Circuit with a medium difficulty level suitable for children from 8 years old, families and adults, and consists on 19 platforms located 4 meters above the ground; and the Red Circuit prepared for advanced lovers of strong emotions and for those who are thrilled to enjoy and download maximum adrenaline, with 20 platforms located over 6 meters from the ground ending with the Zip line over 120 meters.
It is required before making any circuit, regardless on experience or previous training, to do the training course supervised by a monitor.
Estrella Damm Primavera Club 2008

The third edition of Estrella Damm Primavera Club will be held next December in Barcelona on the Stages of the Parc del Forum during the 12th & 13th of December and will be complemented also with a series of performances at the venues of Sala Apolo and La [2] de Apolo from December 10 to 13.
This new edition of Estrella Damm Primavera Club 2008 will be held also and for the first time in Madrid from the 11th to the 13th of December, in the following venues: Joy Eslava, El Sol and Nasti.

World Architecture Festival

The World Architecture Festival is the annual event for architects worldwide.
The Festival will celebrate the work, concerns and aspirations of the international architectural community, during a three-day event taking place in Barcelona, Spain from 22 to 24 October 2008.
The Festival will reflect the increasingly international nature of architecture, while also celebrating its regional roots. It will be possible, through the exhibition of awards entries, to compare and contrast different approaches to the design of 96 building types in the 16 categories.
The Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona (CCIB) is the modern exhibition facility, at the eastern end of the Diagonal, next to the Forum Barcelona building.
The Festival will occupy a substantial part of the ground floor exhibition space, and the first floor for the Awards Gallery, Plenary Room and Presentation Rooms.
Each floor will be designed as a piece of city planning: downstairs the various elements will be laid out like the historic centre of Barcelona; upstairs it will be like the gridded city, complete with Diagonal.
Quidam - Cirque du Soleil

This production of the Cirque du Soleil turns around the imagination of Zoe, a sad young girl to whom her parents give no attention. In her solititude and lonelinessshe dreams to attempt to escape from her sad world. in her escape she creates the world of Quidam, a man without a head that has an umbrella and a bowler hat. Quidam represents a dual character, carrying positive feelings and resentment that makes confront our dreams with our nightmares, our frailties and our anguish. The word quidam comes from the Latin meaning a certain person, a certain thing, a kind of. Quidam is meant to be a solitary figure lingering on a street corner,a nameless passer-by, one who cries out, sings and dreams within us all.
Quidam was first on stage in Montreal in 1996 for the inauguration of Cirque du Soleil's new head office and training center.The soundtrack was composed by Benoît Jutrás, and was released on 14 January 1997.
BARCELONA EXTREME SPORTS FESTIVAL

For the First time in Barcelona the biggest event in extreme sports with a surface of 5.000 m2 of sport facilities and seven different areas for the competitions.Prominent National and International riders will attend to the international competitions of Skateboard, BMX, Inline, FMX, Wakeboard, Ski and Snowboard in the Barcelona Extreme Sport Festival together with amateur competitions, exhibitions and clinics. A big Skatepark of 1225m2 will be build together with a long ramp of 80 meters for the Freestyle Motocross (FMX), a Streetpark of 800m2 for BMX and Inline, a big area of 1000 m2 for urban jibbing covered with permasnow base, an spectacular Half Pipe 14 meters wide, 12 meters long and 4 meters high for Skate, BMX and Inline, and also it will be enabled a wakeboard 300m long at the mouth of the Port del Forum. The International Competitions will be divided intodifferent categories:
The INTERNATIONAL SKATEBOARD PRO-SERIES for individual competition of Skaters in disciplines of Half Pipe and Street
The INTERNATIONAL BMX PRO-SERIES for Specialists on top of their bicycles; turns in the air, flights and all kinds of fantastic shapes and breaks in two disciplines.
The INTERNATIONAL INLINE PRO-SERIES. This competition forms port of the World Circuit P.I.L. that takes places in different countries like Japan, England, Germany, the U.S.A, China and othersn ; and brings together the main international inliners in the form of Street.
The WAKE INTERNATIONAL PRO-SERIES for specialists on wakeboard and wakeskate performing jumps and ramps and handrails drawing figures carried by water jet motos.
The FMX X-BATTLE for members of the Red Bull team that will look forward for the leadership in the freestyle European motocross.
The URBAN JIBBING SEAT PRO-SERIES. The Open Freestyle Seat Circuit Season will open with this first test for the best ski and snowboard specialists on the modality of handrails in male and female category.
Summercase 2008

Parc del Forum Barcelona, July 2008
Summercase is a simultaneous festival in Madrid and Barcelona during two days. The two last editions were a great success of public in both cities. Summercase 08 continues with the original spirit: a same poster for the two cities at the same time, this year on July 18 and 19. Also the venues will be the same as in the past 2 years: in Madrid it will in Boadilla of Monte, and in Barcelona in the Parc de Fòrum, Rambla Prim 2-4.
The event will take place in several simultaneous scenes maintaining its original spirit: An amazing line up of consolidated artists and bands combined with the brightest new talents and hot tips for the future. For the moment some names have been already confirmed: The Breeders, CSS, M.I.A., Maxïmo Park, Mystery Jets, Pete & The Pirates or The Stranglers.
Daydream Festival

Radiohead at the Parc del forum, June 2008
On June 12 it will take place in the Parc del Fòrum the first edition of this new one-day Daydream Festival. The main interest of this 1st edition of the festival will be to listen to the British rock band Radiohead, in the only concert that the band will give in Spain, on their tour presenting the last studio record “In Rainbows”.
This 1st editon of the festival has been programmed to give support to the music of Radiohead as all the groups and djs that will appear on stage together with the british band will have some type of musical influence with the group led by Thom Yorke or as inspiration or as mutual admiration.
Some of the names that will be on stage during the festival are Christoph de Babalon, Cristian Vogel, Knife, Faust, Four Tet Live, Bat lashes, Clinic, Liars, Low, Modeselektor live and M83.
In addition, it will be the opportunity to listen to the Ensemble Nacional de Musica Contemporanea de España, ENEMC, as a clear tribute to the 1997 album “Off Computer” from Radiohead, presenting from a different perspective through the sounds of an orchestra the music that was mostly written to be played by machines and also new material form Radiohead guitarist and composer Jonny Greenwood.

Estrella Damm Primavera Club 2007

The second edition of Estrella Damm Primavera Club 2007 Festival will take place in Barcelona from December 4 to 8 at the venues of the Auditorium in the Parc Del Fòrum and the two spaces of the Sala Apolo.
Five of the names that have already confirmed their presence at the festival are the band of Dylan Carson, Earls; The Liars presenting their last record; the band from Atlanta Deerhunter with the charismatic voice of Bradford Cox; The group from New York Bishop Allen, presenting also their last album “The broken String”; and the young band from LA, The Little Ones.
