Metro de Barcelona

About Barcelona

The Barcelona Metro (Metro de Barcelona), is part of a larger transportation network, regulated and fare-integrated by Autoritat del Transport Metropolità that run underground in central Barcelona and above ground into the city's suburbs, including two lines which are currently under construction (L9 and L10).
The Metro Network is formed by Lines 1 to 5 and 9 and 10 (construction in progress) plus line 11 and the Funicular de Montjuïc, that are administered by the city's transit company (TMB) Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona , and lines 6 to 8 run by the Catalan rail company  (FGC) Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya that are in fact commuter trains with metro-like service and Tram Service.
As of 13 December 2009, after the opening of the first stretch of line 9, the Barcelona Metro system had a total track length of 113 km (70.21 mi), divided into 10 lines with 152 stations. As mentinoed lines 9 and 10 are progressing and some new stations have been opened in 2010. The lines are numbered and are distinguished in the maps by colors.
Among these services there are also two large systems which operate both inside and outside the city limits of Barcelona: the commuter train lines operated by Renfe, amalgamated in the Rodalies Barcelona, or the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya lines which start in the metro lines the company operates and which become a fully-fledged railway system which serves most of the metropolitan area: list of FGC lines.
On respect to Metro tickets you can buy for one individual trip but if you are here for more than one day and you will be using the Metro System often or if you form part of a group it's best to buy the T10 ticket. A T10 will offer 10 trips in the Metro (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona), FGC (Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat de Catalunya) Bus System, Tram Lines and Renfe in all sectors of Zone 1. (All the main areas with tourist attractions are in the Zone 1). The T10 is valid indefinitely and may be shared with other group members. To use the T10 for each person you have to put the card in the machine for each member of the group and pass the turnstile.
